Diversity story for kids video

Sunset is the fairy tale of a kid born among two different worlds, like Africa and Europe could be. Between two colours, two diverse cultures and kind of living. Indeed, as the true sunset, he exists right in the middle of everything, between Night and Day , getting the best gifts accepting his situation as natural, understanding the advantages and richness inside the unity of diversity. Thist story shares common understanding between  different people, fighting racism and discrimination. It was published as a picture book for children by Lapis Edizioni in 2002 and Tempesta Editore in 2017. In 2003 it was awarded by the International Youth Library (IYL, Monaco) with the White Ravens , a recognition to the books all over the world considered of special value and it was selected in 2011 for the “ Night of the tales ”, event organized throughout Switzerland by the Bibliomedia Italian Switzerland. Video in English with Italian subtitles:

What are we afraid of?

Stories and News No. 1045 I see. I see that the British edition of Grazia magazine has the opportunity to publish on the cover a close-up of the beautiful Mexican award-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o . I also see that the editors feel the need to retouch the photo, according to the required or self-imposed fees, as always it depends on the personal degree of imprisonment. At the same time, I see the brave actress openly rebelling against the wrongful manipulation, revealing it as yet another sling at the service of the Eurocentric popular picture. I see more, soon after, by widening the look and the usual, disorganized imagination, which I will never fail to apologize of. I see a room. A room protected by aggressive guards and armed with threatening weapons. In the middle, an old man. A very aged one, with tired eyes, but still fixed on his own hand, that is, the claw clutching the consumed pencil which he passes with hellish repetition always on and on the same stret...

Diversity stories: the kingdom for everybody

Stories and News No. 961 The Donald Trump ’s administration has decided to cancel the diversifications on bathrooms and changing rooms for transgender students, matching their gender identity. A sort of step back from Obama ’s government. A right move for some and a medieval action for others. Yet, I know a place... Once upon a time there was a kingdom. A great one, if you think about it, a lot bigger than you might believe, if you look from above or a good distance. You have got the best screening size and opportunities within your imagination or what it has so far survived. In the great kingdom, much more than the simple appearance, there was everything for everyone. All had been designed and programmed for each living creature. It was so for inanimate things too, let alone who breathes and loves, comes and goes. There was food for all, depending on the digestive system and tastes, the ingestion and ways to find it. And there was shelter for every kind of life, a be...

Diversity stories: what makes us human

Stories and News No. 848 The gay first kiss in public between two Royal Canadian Navy sailors , so many newspapers wrote recently. The first time when … We might as well tell the human passage on this earth, if maybe one day we will be worthy to be part of the overall story. Certainly there are spiders, cobwebs are still sublime art, as well as the caterpillar that becomes a butterfly. Therefore, powering ourselves with tolerance for the myriad of meanness and passion for neglected brackets of beauty, let’s recall some of the first times when ... As the first moment when a man has realized that regardless of how much fine he will act as a father, he will never be comparable to a woman. Who is a mother. As the first day when a child has risen straight among the kneel ones and, in spite of silence was the cheapest answer, it asked the very first why . As the first night that a girl went to bed with the promise of getting up the next morning to look straight into the eyes th...

Diversity stories: Italy says yes to gay marriage

Stories and News No. 783 The EU Parliament asked nine Member States, including Italy, to "consider the possibility of offering" same-sex couples legal institutions such as "cohabitation, registered partnership and marriage. " From the news to the story... Yes. I say yes. I do. And let’s suppose. Let's suppose some things, listing them with desirable consistency, despite the excitement of the moment. Let's say I wanted to marry. Let’s imagine that this was the marriage. Mine. A commitment, of course, a promise, okay, the beginning of a public union in the presence of the community, I agree. Partaking with the best feelings and intentions. But let’s say also that it was nothing more than enshrining something was there before . And that, hopefully, will be present as well after . The love’s depth that makes the two as one . And just as the mutual respect’s maturity that allows the two to remain so, despite the one . Like an accomplished and ...

Diversity stories: The against nature kingdom

Stories and News No. 752 On May 17 the world celebrated the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia . Once upon a time there was a kingdom. As a kingdom, at the head of the latter there was a king. A king who had taken being a king very seriously. Let’s just say a lot. Infinitely so. Someday the king who had taken himself very seriously, let's say Infinitely much, decided to finish. What? You may ask. Well, the king was tired of all this permissive relativism with the obsession for moral drift and lustful transgression, that’s it. He was the king and the kingdom belongs to the king, until proved otherwise, this was his thought watching the mirror that morning. So, he made a proclamation. Any citizen who was caught in acts against nature would be instantly executed. The supreme judge of the kingdom, which was a fussy and upright man, promised to enforce the edict in six days. Literally. What followed was a true genocide. The first day all aviators ...

Diversity stories: the meaning of disturb

Stories and News No. 747 In a B&B in Rome a mother of Ravenna was advised to get out for his son, an autistic child. Because he might disturb... Once upon a time there was a population. A united population. Tight in the middle of the world. Safe, protected. Possibly away. From danger. Real or narrated it might be, because if the story and the news will greet along the way, it means that the boundaries between the naïve invention and the roughness of the bare ground becomes ambiguous. Confused and rarefied. Getting the most paradoxical outcome. To fascinate drunken people by misguided tales, at the same time, to strengthen the beliefs of the population in question. No one knows when it all began. The exact moment when the intruder dared to shatter the evanescent eggs in the basket of dull anguish drawn. What matters is that the story changed. A girl with unregulated voice screamed, spotting the silent living of the population away. So the latter reacted by pure c...

Diversity stories in the reign of normal

Stories and News No. 736 I read that Mike Pence, Indiana governor, signed the "Religious Freedom Restoration Act" (more preciously the "religious Objections" bill). This seems to assure people the right to refuse any kind of service to someone if their beliefs do not recognize it his sexual behavior as normal. Think if things were really as well as professionals of fear scream. Imagine what it would mean to live where the straight path is one and only one... Once upon a time there was the reign of normal people. Where things were simple. Clear. Or at worst, dark. Men and women. Regally in that order. Despite the beautiful saying in the very important evenings, the place you sit matters. And so the places you leave to others. Imagine to be wrong person between pure souls. Shaky existence with confused consciousness. And a jumbled morality, perpetually crossed by huge question marks. Imagine the proportions of the sin. Hearing arising questions whe...

Diversity stories: Letter to Free

Stories and News No. 727 Two thousand and something, 8th March, over there… Dear Free, I have no idea if your name is really so, but that's how I see you. Free . I think of the meaning, rather than the name, but this is obvious and I ask your forgiveness for that. The world has proved so far too much lack of originality referring to you. So I hope not to sin of redundancy. I'm here, with these words, to congratulate you. Because a party is a party and the protagonist must be honored. That is a duty, even before a pleasure. Today, March 8, it is your celebration. You won, you come first, you are the first. Of many, I hope, unless the past will not resuscitate. And who better than us knows how formidable history’s regurgitation is? This is why we must celebrate festivities like yours. Because yours is not like others before. Because there really is something to celebrate today. That is why it is called festivity, that is why we celebrate, that is why you have ...

Diversity Stories: Us and Them

Stories and News No. 722 "Italy has wasted the opportunity to give the EU a different address, based on respect for human rights, fight against discrimination, and in particular on policies on immigration issue that gave priority to saving lives." These words are from the general director of Amnesty, accompanying the publication of the usual annual report about human rights. This year is even more tragic than the last. That is the usual problem of us. And them... Once upon a time there was the land of us . The land of us was inhabited by people whose names were easy to pronounce. Me , you , myself , me again , always you , me too , what about you? , and so on. Outside there were them . Their names were not easy to pronounce. According to us , obviously. He , she , the others , all the other ones , that guy , that girl , these guys , go away and come back to your land , etc. Now, I have to say that many of us were not nice with them. The reasons are many an...

Diversity stories: three muslim students killed in the silence

Stories and News No. 717 In Chapel Hill, USA, Craig Stephen Hicks shot and killed Yusor Mohammad, 21, Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, 19, and husband of the oldest, Deah Barakat, 23, all students of the University of North Carolina. The three were Islamic... In the silence . Man shoots and kills three young souls. Two girls and a guy in the beginning of life. Three Muslim students. Muslim . An adjective, just a word. Consonants and vowels, letters and sounds. As other words try to extinguish the fire. Religion has nothing to do . Do not make comparisons. No way. It is a madman’s action. It is an isolated incident. Maybe he was provoked. No, nothing to do with religion. Human violence has no limits. Do not associate. Because that was another story. This is the act of a mentally ill person. It is common in the violent society. There have been no claims. Nothing to do with religion. Do not make combinations. Because the similarity is not true. The man was crazy...

Diversity stories: One child two mothers

Stories and News No. 715 Today is a particular day in the so called eternal city. The Registry of Civil Status of the City of Rome has recorded the birth of a child of 4 years. The couple is made of two mothers, from Argentine and Italy. There will be as usual heated discussions, with fierce criticism and felt congratulations. These are the words, the following words. They begin their dance after a few seconds. Imagine then scrolling to see them on an imaginary screen at double speed. Triple and even more. With the volume turned down, hopefully. So let's stop there, listening the only sound that is genuinely meaningful to speak. Dear moms, How many things. How many things I would have to say to you. Not as many as they were written. Exclaimed, and often loudly shouted. These are the following words . They are important, I know. You and all those like me could never ignore them. Because we are the ones that since the curtain closes bring those words on the sh...

Diversity stories: We Are You

Stories and News No. 695 Today, December 3, marks the United Nations' International Day of Persons with Disabilities . I always thought that the gaps that distinguish us and often afflict us are until someone fills them for us. Deleting them... Disabled. Differently abled . Or, maybe it's better, just you . You, who are here now. Relax and enjoy the journey. Because what you're missing, we have a lot. If it is fantasy, we will give you the best colors, the ones that make wonderful the discreet, chosen on sunlight with frankly hardworking, no gift from photoshop. We will not give you all the stories, but only those that will remain. Forever and ever. And we'll give you chords that will free the body from that pontificating pretentious guy up there, in the skull. No eighth discovery, anyway We will catch among the usual seven, do not worry. Nothing is heard, when music translates the present day. Read also like you and us . If courage is what you ar...
